...the history of the Funen Village

The Funen Village opened up to the public in 1946. Back the museum consisted of only 8 houses, today we have 26 buildings.

Originally the museum was intended to communicate the history of old farm houses, build in half timber and with thatched roofs. In the beginning of the 20th Century these buildings were disappearing from the Funen countryside. By the establishment of the Funen Village it was hoped that the memory of the old style of building would not vanish.

 
 
Did you know that...

...you can watch an introductory film in the Village's cinema?

In the cinema of the Visitor's Centre a film about life in the country in the 19th Century is shown.

The film lasts 15 minutes, and when you have watched it, you will have an even better experience from your visit in the Funen Village.

 
 

Open-Air Stage

Concerts and theatrical performances are often held on the open-air stage at the Funen Village.
 
Family theatre is performed from mid-July to mid-August by the Hans Christian Andersen Festival Players, who perform one of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales, providing edutainment for thousands of children and adults.
